MTG
The Hawke's Bay Museum
Re-branding the iconic Hawkes Bay Museum and Art Gallery was a fascinating challenge for us. The brief was to combine through design, three buildings of distinct character: the original Art Deco Louis Hay building opened in 1936, the 1977 Natusch designed Modernist theatre, and a new, light-filled gallery which completes this center of culture for locals and visitors alike.
The logo is a typographical depiction of the coming together of these three spaces, the museum, the theatre and the gallery. It creates a three part arrangement with the T sitting in the middle as the theatre itself does. The name is simple, honest and true. The MTG is a meeting place of people, cultures, objects and ideas.
